What kind of animals live in the area?

Yucatan Deer

The Yucatan White-Tailed Deer is the National mammal and the National symbol of all Honduran wildlife.

Kinkajoo

The Kinkajoo is also known as the “Honey Bear”.

Howler Monkey

The Howler Monkey make noises that can travel more than one mile through the rainforest/mangroves.

Tamandua

The Tamandua have no teeth and mainly eat ants and termites.

Green Iguana

The Green Iguana has been measured as long as 2 meters. It is also know to locals as the “chicken of the tree”.

Ocelot

The Ocelot is normally active at twilight and at night. Ocelots are featured in the camera trap pics at Las Cascadas.

Capuchin

Capuchin monkey’s coloration inspired the root of it’s name which is that of a hooded monk or ‘friar’.

Tayra

The Tayra is in the weasel family and also appears in the Trail Cam pics from the lodge.

Jaguar

Boa Constrictor

The Boa Constrictor is a non-venomous snake that is often captured and sometimes eaten in Honduras.

Coati

The Coati have been seen on the hiking trails at Las Cascadas Lodge.

Agouti

The Agouti has five toes on it’s front feet and three on it’s hind feet.

Mexican Porcupine

Though sightings are rare, the Mexican Porcupine has been spotted in the Cangrejal River Valley.

Red Brocket Deer

The Red Brocket Deer is normally solitary and hides out in the dense jungle.
