What Bird is this?
Black Vultures are unable to sing because they lack the vocal organ that most birds are equipped with. Instead, they communicate by hissing, yapping, grunting, and cooing.
Las Cascadas Lodge is located in the scenic Rio Cangrejal Valley, nestled between Pico Bonito and Nombre de Dios National Parks on Honduras’ north coast. With Pico Bonito’s 280,000 acres of primary forests to the west, and Nombre Dios’ 66,000 acres to the east, Las Cascadas is the ideal birding location within a region of primary forests ranging from near sea level to upwards of 8,000 feet elevation. All of the rivers, valleys, rain and cloud forests within, provide home for 70% of Honduras’ 780+ bird species. Please contact us for pricing.

The lodge’s proximity to other key birding locations like Cuero y Salado Wildlife Refuge, Rio Santiago, and even the dry forests of the upper Aguan Valley, offers easy access to a rich mix of birding habitats.
There are numerous rain forest trails on the property which lead to stunningly beautiful waterfalls. And along those trails, birders have the chance to see some of the most spectacular species Honduras has to offer. The bird list on the lodge property alone approaches 300 species, and sought-after birds such as the Sunbittern, Yellow-eared Toucanet, Lovely Cotinga, Keel-billed Motmot, and many more share the nearby forests with Jaguars, Ocelots and a rich list of iconic, tropical fauna.
