A Lovely Cotinga Spotted by a guest from Canada
After years wondering about this special bird, our guest Sue and guide Kelvin Bodden spotted the Lovely Cotinga right on the property at Las Cascadas Lodge!
“An unobtrusive, rather chunky bird of forest canopy in tropical forest of humid lowlands. Most often seen as a single male perched on exposed high branches, less often at fruiting trees where can be quite low. Male is unmistakable: brilliant electric blue (glowing even at long range) with plum-colored throat and belly patch. Female very different: pale grayish overall with white scalloping above and dusky dappling below. Basically silent.”

Cayos Cochinos is a natural paradise in Honduras preserved as a Marine National Monument. Snorkel and sightsee on this boat tour of the islands. The Cayos Cochinos or Cochinos Cays consist of two small islands and 13 smaller coral cays situated 30 km northeast of La Ceiba on the northern shores of Honduras.
The coral reef is part of the second largest coral reef in the world, known as the Mesoamerican Barrier Reef. There is a scientific research station on Cayo Menor, the smaller of the two main islands in the system.
